The wind and weather on Cape Town Cycle Tour
The Cape Town Cycle Tour is the world’s largest timed cycle race: 109 km around the Cape Peninsula, from the Grand Parade in the city centre over Chapman’s Peak and Suikerbossie to the finish at Green Point. Riders set off in seeded batches over almost three hours.
It’s also the ride where the wind decides the day. Mid-March is still south-easter season: mornings are often calmer, then the Cape Doctor builds and can gust hard along False Bay and around Chapman’s Peak. Wind cancelled the 2017 edition and shortened others, and the first and last batches can meet very different rides. Set your start time and pace above: the forecast follows the hours you’ll actually be riding. The wind on every stretch of the course appears once the route is added to this page.
